This was the first Joint Study Conference between the Countryside Management Association, Northern Ireland Countryside Staff Association, Scottish Countryside Ranger Association and Ranger Association of Ireland. The CMA Annual General Meeting was held on Monday 3rd September 2001.

Summary of prospectus:

Objective: EU policies, legislation, and directives exert a growing influence on the life of European citizens. This joint conference will examine some of the impacts of those influences on the work of countryside staff. Cardinal Beetle

Aims:

  1. To familiarise participants with the implications of some aspects of EU designation and funding mechanisms.
  2. To identify principles which can be applied to joint working, from transfrontier co-operation to local community action.

Method: Presentations, workshops and site visits, the latter using examples in the sandwich of Lancashire between the Forest of Bowland and Morecambe Bay.
