Countryside Management Association
The All new CMA
An update from the CMA, March 2008

What’s changed?

Over the last few months some fundamental changes have been implemented within the CMA.

Why have we done it?

We had to properly register the CMA as a company for legal liability reasons and it has also allowed us to develop a much more efficient and relevant constitution.
The new membership categories provide an easier route in for students and volunteers along with a better route of progression for existing members.
And, as has been discussed at length on various forums, our industry is going through a period of significant and rapid change, and a number of new organisations have arisen whose aims have significant overlap with the CMA.

What does it mean for you?

The CMA now has a sound organisational foundation from which to tackle its key priorities and deliver for its members. See our key priorities and new national committee structure below.

Our new vision and aims clarify our niche within the sector and bring our terminology up to date.

A new regional structure. Our new structure falls in line with that of Natural England and Government Office. Effectively we now have a greater number of smaller regions. This will help our members to travel to training and other networking events within their region. It will also make it easier for us to work in partnership with Natural England and other government and non-government organisations.
However one challenging consequence of the new regional structure is that we may need more Regional Chairs.

What next?

Deliver our priorities

If you want to know more detail please take a look at our work plan.

But most importantly, if you want to get involved please get in touch with your local County Representative or Regional Chair, or any member of the National Committee.

Our new vision and aims

CMA’s diverse membership is linked by common themes such as conservation management, information and interpretation, environmental education, sustainability, social inclusion, recreation management and environmental protection.
