This event is designed for people who have had some experience of working with young people in informal settings (i.e. outside school) in the 12+ age group on environmental and/or sustainable development issues. You will be asked to reflect upon, examine and learn from your own and others’ environmental youth work practice. The day will include a number of group work techniques, looking at how to work more effectively with young people in current, past and/or future projects by defining and developing the role of an environmental youth worker; building better relationships with young people; identifying and developing opportunities for working in partnership with young people and other organisations; enabling young people to plan and carry out environmental youth work activities; managing youth work activities more effectively; looking at Education for Sustainable Development in youth work and the impact of new developments in the youth work world on ESD.
The event is aimed at staff and volunteers in the environmental and youth work sectors. Those who may benefit in particular include rangers, urban rangers, project and field officers, recreation providers, LA21 officers, education officers, full-, part-time and voluntary youth workers in the statutory and non-statutory sectors, youth development workers.
