Worcester Woods Country Park
This event is aimed at managers of country parks and
organisations considering developing country parks who
have responsibility for sites that do/could deliver the
functions of county parks. This event is also aimed at
landscape architects, designers and consultants involved
in country park development or refurbishment, policy
officers from local authorities and leisure services
managers.

09.30am - Coffee on arrival at Pinewood Community Hall
09.30 - 10.15am - Introduction to the day by Neil Lister CMA and James Baker, Ipswich Greenways Project.
Belstead Brook Park is an informal country park extending to almost 300 acres, on the south-western edge of Ipswich. The Park is managed by the Greenways Countryside Project (a partnership between local authorities and the local community) - as "local countryside for local people".
The Park has a very wide range of important wildlife sites and habitats, linked by the Belstead Brook - and is easily accessed by 10,000 local people. All the usual urban fringe countryside issues can be found in BBP, so there will be plenty to talk about during the day!
10.15 - 11am - Presentation by Penny Hemphill, Suffolk Wildlife Trust. ‘Water for Wildlife’ and ‘Crayfish Ark’ projects.
11.00 – 12.00 - Visit toad colony site, Bobbits Lane and also discuss management for otter/water vole and wetland and meadow management .
12.00-1.00 Lunch on site (weather permitting) or indoors (Bring your own sarnies).
1.00 – 3.00 pm - Site visits including Belstead Brook Park (including ‘allotment forestry’/bat conservation) and Thorington Hall Barn to discuss and development of the Greenways Project base. This session will include a presentation by Peter Holborn, Countryside Manager, Suffolk County Council on how green spaces can feature in the Government’s ‘Growth Area’ plans for this part of town. Also a chance for people to network with colleagues from around the region.
3pm-ish Return to Community Hall for tea, coffee, short discussion. Then wind-up and homeward bound

One-day duration aimed at highway engineers, tree wardens, rangers, contractors etc. Also as a preliminary course for contractors, dedicated tree inspectors, assistant and principal Arboricultural officers wishing to complete an advanced programme. This course is assessed and certified

Lunch – (Bring your own Sarnies) or Lunch can be purchased from one of the food outlets at the Zoo
End time: 16.30pm
Objectives:
Identify obvious defects by visual inspection of the trees from ground level with the aid of binoculars, mallet and a probe
To record defects and place the tree in a broad category of hazard rating
Identify the required action upon finding a tree with an obvious defect.
Please bring with you binoculars, wooden mallet, probe and writing materials plus clipboard for ease of writing outside. Wet weather clothes etc in the event of it being a wet Devon Day!

Nene Park Trust
Ferry Meadows Country Park, Peterborough; PE2 5UU
Nene Park Trust stretches for 10 km along the valley of the River Nene immediately west of Peterborough. It comprises lakes, meadows and woodlands providing opportunities for a wide range of outdoor recreation and informal activities ranging from archery & BBQ’s to horse riding & water sports. Managing these various activities and maintaining the Park’s facilities are just part of the role of the ranger team at Nene Park Trust.
10am - Coffee on arrival at the Visitor Centre
10.30am – Welcome and introduction to the Trust by Chief Executive James McCulloch, Visitor Services Manager Susan Taylor and Operations Manager Martin James
11.30am – A walk around the centre of the park to look at the Trust’s fledgling recycling project. A chance to discuss the wider issues of waste management within the parks industry.
12.30-1.15 Lunch. Bring a packed lunch or alternatively purchase something from the Visitor Centre Cafe
1.15 pm After a brief presentation by Chris Park, the Trust’s Visitor Services Officer, we will explore the park using our new GPS self led trail. This system allows the public to borrow a PDA loaded with software which delivers information to the user when triggered at certain GPS points.
3.30pm Return to the Visitor Centre for refreshments before departure
